Office moving is a particularly unpleasant activity which can be highly stressful and incredibly inconvenient. However it is also certainly a necessary evil that can't be avoided when you need to move to a larger property for more staff or when you need to move to be closer to the business. In many circumstances office moving might also simply be highly profitable and mean that your business is more successful as a result.
Fortunately there are many ways that you can make office moving easier and less of a hassle, and to ensure that there are as few hiccups and snags as possible. Here we will look at a few of them.
Prepare all your bills and service first: One of the difficult aspects of office moving is that you need to change your address for all of your utilities and services such as electricity, water, phone and internet. For most companies the majority of these are completely necessary for normal service as most businesses now rely on the internet, computers and telephone communication. With things such as the internet it may take up to a few weeks for your 'activation date' when you'll be able to use it from your new address. As such, if you are waiting on your electricity to kick in before you can start work this can then damage your profits - particularly if you have already moved into the new building or no longer have the old building. If you plan this in advance however, you can time the whole process perfectly to ensure that your office moving occurs just as your utilities and bills move over to the new address.
Allow some 'crossover': When you hire your commercial moving service and renting you should try and allow some 'crossover' between your old and new address, meaning that you will own or be allowed in your new building before you lose access to your old one. Of course this relies slightly on third parties and it may in some cases be out of your hands (for example if you are buying instead of renting you will have to move out when the new owner wants to move in). However, if you can arrange it this way then this will give you longer for your office moving and will provide backup in case anything should go wrong.
Use a 'skeleton' staff: Instead of doing your office moving all in one go you can do it in 'stages' in order to allow your company to continue to do business while the office moving happens. To do this, ask your commercial movers to move first just the 'bear essentials' such as the computers and desks. Then send over just a few members of staff who can 'man the ship' until the whole 'crew' arrive. This way you can still have answer the phones etc while you move and your company won't look 'dead' to the outside world.
Use commercial movers: And of course you should use commercial movers to handle the majority of the move for you so that you can get on with what you do best as well as avoiding items getting lost or damaged.
